All three of Heidi's children were born without medication using the HypnoBirthing® method. Her first, Kate, was born after two hours of labor. Zach, her second, was born within 30 minutes of Heidi's arrival at the hospital. Tess, her youngest, was born at home in water.

Heidi is a certified HypnoBirthing practitioner affiliated with the HypnoBirthing Institute. Certified in March 2000, Heidi teaches couples the HypnoBirthing method of childbirth to help them attain the calm, peaceful birth they desire. HypnoBirthing is based upon the premise that there is no physiologic reason that the birth process must include pain. The vast majority of births are natural, normal, and healthy. HypnoBirthing teaches couples that under these circumstances, birth can be returned to a serene, joyous experience that most mirrors nature. The course covers the whole concept of birth from a self hypnosis-relaxation perspective in order to celebrate birth with the least amount of discomfort and pain. In addition, the class includes information on psychology, anatomy, physiology, and biochemical interactions, as well as a brief history of birth. HypnoBirthing teaches and empowers a mother and her birthing companion to have a truly memorable birth, and includes birthing preferences for health professionals to use.

Heidi has been supporting breastfeeding women as an accredited La Leche League Leader since June 2003.

Upon graduating from Cornell University, Heidi moved to Washington, DC to become a lobbyist for the alternative energy industry. After transferring to Connecticut three years later, she worked as an Information Technology Project Manager at UnitedHealthcare on their Corporate Year 2000 team.
